What is Duale Ausbildung?
Ausbildung (or Duale Ausbildung) is a vocational education and professional training program (vocational school combined with on-the-job training) in Germany that lasts for three years. During the Ausbildung in Germany, participants typically attend school for two days a week to study theory, work three days a week for practical training, and have two days off (other schedules may also apply, depending on the policies of the company and the school). Participants study at a vocational school (Berufsschule) to learn theoretical subjects and undergo practical training at a company. The goal is to enable participants to learn their chosen field of expertise from the basics to an advanced level, gain experience, and acquire knowledge, so that after graduation they can pursue a career as a professional skilled worker.
After completing the three-year Ausbildung program, participants receive a certificate recognizing them as professionals in their field. Graduates are awarded the title of skilled worker (Fachkraft). They can work as permanent employees (Mitarbeiter) and are allowed to work in Germany for as long as they wish, even until retirement. The salary they receive will also be significantly higher than during the Ausbildung period.
